2013 Kids Day events
2013 Crooked Creek Chapter
Crooked Creek Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited annual Kidís
Fishing Day was a huge success. We held the event in one
of the most beautiful, remote places on earth;
Fourchette Bay on Fort Peck Lake. The event would have
been at Crooked Creek Bay, but due to low water we moved
it to Fourchette Bay. We really like to make sure we are
putting on an event that the kids will remember for the
rest of their lives. Going to these remote locations is
a lot of work but definitely worth it, as a lot of these
kids and families might never have the chance to see and
fish Fort Peck Lake otherwise.
We had 50 kids ages 6-12 and parents show up for the event. Quite a few families camped the entire weekend with us. We were able to help the Boys and Girls Club put together a crew to come down and also enjoy the day. The day started off with lunch for everyone. Then each participant received a Camelbak backpack with a first aid kit, a Neck Kooler, and a rod and reel combo, along with many other prizes. Once everyone had a chance to finish lunch, the kidís were split into 2 groups. Half went out on the boats fishing with our chapter members, and the other half started working on their casting skills and received knot tying lessons. We were lucky enough to have 8 boats and helpers to take the kids fishing and teach them about boat safety. Each group had an hour and a half to fish. Trophies were given for largest fish caught in four species categories.
The winners were: Ryan Meneely for the largest perch, Lariate Hagenbuch for the largest walleye, Jasmine Brinley for the largest northern pike, Dan Lindskog for the largest bass, and Keaton Wold for the largest fish overall.
The casting contest winners were: Eloise Hansenman for ages 6-8, Thea Deanon for ages 9-10 and Brodie Goodhart for ages 11-12.
Kidís Fishing Day is one of our clubís biggest events, and without all the volunteers and sponsors we would not be able make it happen. Thank you to everyone that helps out in so many ways!
Donís Store for donating a rod & reel combo for each kid, Central Montana Variety Store for a great discount on the backpacks, first aid kits and Neck Koolerz, Lewistown Sports for the bait, Pourmanís Cafť for the catering and ice, Hilger Meat for the hot dogs, and Coca-Cola for the water and Powerade.

great time at the Wild Center the displays and

Cascade to fish for Northern Pike. The north Pike
