2016 Kids Day events

March Kids Fishing Day!

NMS/EMS Hooked on Fishing Not Drugs Club took our first fishing trip of the year to Holter reservoir March 5th. We had a great group of kids and volunteers who enjoyed the shielded black beach from the wind. Our volunteers served up a great lunch and assisted the kids in demonstrating the appropriate type of fishing, casting, regulations, and type of bait. We discussed fish conservation as many of the students were new and let them know we would continue this each trip we take. This was an amazing trip as most of the fish we caught were over 20” trout that put up a healthy fight! Also a special thanks to Chris Hickman who help about every kid catch a trout on a Fly rod.

A big thanks to the following sponsors of the day:
Jenn and Pat - Safari Club international Great Falls Chapter
Walleyes Limited
Holiday Gas Stations
Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks
Missouri River Fly fishers
Alex Ferguson

NMS/EMS - February

On Monday Feb 17th EMS/NMS hooked on Fishing not Drugs went out fishing to Holter with 10 inches of ice. This was a great trip for many reasons but a few of the highlights were as follows: Joining us where part of the UGF Girls Basketball Team, thanks goes out to Steve Yates for making that experience happen One of the basketball players even caught the largest fish, a perch weighing in at 13” and 1.63 lbs.

A big thanks goes out to the Haney Family for a homemade lunch. This family is a familiar face to our clubs and every Feb they celebrate a passing a family member that was a great outdoorsman by provide lunch for our youth fishing clubs. We would also like to thank the many volunteers who continue to show up month after month and take time to work with our kids.

NMS/EMS - January

There is no better way folks than to spend a Monday on the water or ice in our case. The sun was shining with very little wind and the roads were great on our way to the Bear Paw. NMS/EMS Fishing Clubs were greeted by the local warden of District Andrew Fuerst to welcome them and catch what all the action was. This trip was one that we believe the ladies out- fished the men. (We think it is because they had some fish wild life and parks employees helping them - Kqyn Kuka and Laura Doughty) But who’s counting right! Many caught more than 10 nice sized trout and fun was had by all. This trip included students from the some Great Falls elementariness, both middle schools, high schools and a local catholic high school. As well as some former Fishing Club advisors and parents! Take a look at the pictures and you can see how great getting some Vitamin D was for all of us! Thanks to all of our volunteers and the cook for coming out to assist! We couldn’t do it without you!
